Traditional Chinese tea is served on a tea table. The "table" might also be more commonly described as a tray in which the top has slits and holes for the hot water and hot tea to drain into. Traditional Chinese tea ceremonies usually begin with washing of the tea cups and tea pet while on the tea table by pouring hot water over the cups and tea pet. The first brewing of the tea is actually the washing of the tea leaves and is not consumed. It is usually poured out over the tea pet for the tea pet to enjoy and allowed to run off into the tea tray reservoir.
